Snipers from 16 Air Assault Brigade’s infantry units came together on the Stanford Training Area (STANTA) in Norfolk this week (6-9 May). As well as hitting targets at ranges of up to 1,200 metres by day and night, the snipers were tested on close quarter shooting, stalking and their observation and concealment skills. http://www.strikehold.net

At Pegasus Bridge, troops from 2nd Battalion, The Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry landed by glider to capture key bridges across the River Orne and Caen Canal to prevent the Germans reinforcing the beaches. The mission was achieved with total surprise and the bridges became the first part of occupied France to be liberated.

Exercise GREEN MAELSTROM has seen 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (3 PARA) put through its paces and celebrate one of its heroes.

The competition honours the memory of Sergeant Ian McKay, who was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his “outstanding selflessness, perseverance and courage” during the Falklands War in 1982. Sgt McKay VC was killed during the assault on Mount Longdon when he attacked an Argentine position alone and under heavy fire.
